What is a Dehumidifier?

11/4/2021 (Permalink)

dehus Paired with Air Movers, our Dehus withstand many mitigation projects.

Dehumidifiers (Dehus) are electronic appliances used to remove moisture, from the air, walls, floors, etc..  They serve greatly in our line of business, especially when we are performing services to remove water.  They do this by increasing the temperature in an affected space, allowing for a speedier drying process.

This advanced drying equipment stabilizes humidity, vaporizing water in the air and materials affected.  Dehus take in moisture, and in turn, put out dry air, eventually ventilating the room and/or space surrounding them.

Dehumidifiers, paired with Air Movers, work very well together in drying out an affected area.  They should run overnight, undisturbed, for at least 24 hours, to up to several days, depending on the size of the affected area.

If you have questions about moisture problem areas in your home or office, call or text SERVPRO of South San Francisco City/ San Bruno at 650-794-1000!

Mold and your Property

10/6/2021 (Permalink)

Mold found in bathroom Contact us immediately once the site of mold is detected, to save you time and money of possible future damages.

Mold is everywhere, in and out of structures.  It enters inside through entryways, outlets, chimneys, air conditioning components, windows, you name it!  Outside air can attach itself to your belongings as well, when entering your home or workspace:  purses, backpacks, bottoms of shoes, pets, and clothes.

Once inside, mold looks for moist spaces, such as leaks in windows, roofs, or pipes.  It spreads quickly onto cardboard, ceiling tiles, wood products, and even common paper products.  What’s so tricky is that they can also hide in spaces that are not as visible to us:  dust, paint, wallpaper, drywall, carpet, upholstery, and insulation.

If the sight of mold is found on your property, we here at SERVPRO of South San Francisco City / San Bruno highly recommend that an Industrial Hygienist be contacted to run tests for the presence of Mold Growth.  Once this thorough assessment has taken place, a “Written Mold Protocol Report for Mold Remediation” is created, which our team will work diligently with you to get things back to normal, "Like it never even happened."

SERVPRO of South San Francisco City / San Bruno is ready to assist with any mold related questions, as well as provide referrals for Industrial Hygienists.  Call us today 650-794-1000.

Do You Know How to Remove Smoke Odor After a Fire? WE DO!

10/5/2021 (Permalink)

Scrubbers Air scrubbers pull in contaminated air and traps airborne debris before putting out clean air.

Because smoke and soot particles still linger after a blaze, indoor air quality (IAQ) is always a concern.  Moisture from extinguishing the flames carry the makings for mildew and mold.  If neglected, these makings bring potential health effects for your family. Here at SERVPRO of SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO CITY / SAN BRUNO, we have highly trained IAQ technicians working with the appropriate equipment and cleaning agents to restore air quality throughout the project.  Once work is complete, the interior of your home / place of business will have breathable air.  Our cleaning methods and high-performance filtration system will battle microbial contaminants and stubborn fume stench.

What We Use to Improve Air Quality

Air Scrubbers

This equipment reduces debris and particles from the surrounding air, identifying and ridding microbial threats that could create problems in damp settings. Air scrubbers also pull in contaminated air, trapping airborne debris before putting out clean air.  Some of our scrubbers contain charcoal filters, that surround and clear airborne specks.

Hydroxyl Generators

This dual-action performing equipment:

  • Cleans the interior air by modifying stench triggered compounds; and
  • Decontaminates the air through filtration.

During this cleanup, our filtration efforts ensure that any loosened particles are stabilized, and do not redistribute back into the air of the interior.

Will All Smoke Odors Be Gone?

No matter what the size or extent of the incident that took place, removing smoke odors is just one of the many things we excel in here at SERVPRO OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO CITY / SAN BRUNO.  With our extensive cleaning methods, every step will be taken to locate, and rid areas where odorous particles may still be hiding.  Call us at (650) 794-1000 to have a crew dispatched to your home / place of business today!

The Use of a Dehumidifier in the Bay Area!

4/28/2020 (Permalink)

This Image shows multiple Dehumidifiers used on different mitigation projects. Our clean and green Dehumidifiers have been used on many mitigation projects that have had water or mold damages.

What is a Dehumidifier and what is it used for?

The Dehumidifier, also known as a Dehu for short, is mainly used on mitigation projects that pertain to water or mold damages in residential or commercial spaces.

Many do not realize that there is a science to drying out buildings and homes affected by water losses and the Dehumidifier plays a huge role in that drying process by raising the temperature.

The Dehumidifier has drying technology that helps control the humidity and stabilizes the environment which assists with evaporating the water in the air and from materials that are affected by the water.   The Dehu basically sucks up the wet air and spits out dry air which then eventually drys out the location.

The Dehumidifier works best with Air Mover's and should be left running for 24 hr periods without interruption.  It's like boiling a pot of water, once turned off, you have to start all over again to get to that boiling point.

The Air Movers Used in the Bay Area!

4/28/2020 (Permalink)

This image shows multiple air movers in process. Placing our Clean and Green Air Movers on Mitigation Projects to get the project dried in a timely manner!

What are Air Movers and what are they used for?

An Air Mover is a piece of equipment that assists with the drying process on mitigation projects that usually pertains to water losses or even odor removal.  The Air Mover pushes the air around from one space to another space and works hand in hand with a Dehumidifier or an Odor Control Device.

Usually multiple Air Movers are placed at a time depending on how much area is affected.  While the Air Movers are pushing the air with moisture around the Dehumidifier uses it's technology to suck in and dry the airs moisture out.

The Air Movers can be placed in different positions and directed at specific sections of the buildings structure.  Usually the Air Movers are pointed toward the affected wet sections of walls, ceilings or even the flooring to focus on drying points.  As the wet materials dry the Air Movers are removed!

There are different types of Air Movers, but they all pretty much do the same work- Get the Project Dried!

The Hydroxyl Generator in the Bay Area!

3/13/2020 (Permalink)

This Photos shows multiple images of the Hydroxyl Generator in progress! This is our Extra Special piece of Green Equipment in our arsenal called the Hydroxyl Generator that eliminates and destroys odors in the air!

What is a Hydroxyl Generator?!?

SERVPRO of South San Francisco City/ San Bruno gets asked many times "what's that cool thing you set up"? Well, that's our extra special piece of green equipment called a Hydroxyl Generator!

The Hydroxyl Generator is used mainly for deodorization, but can also be used to decontaminate and purify the air with no added chemicals.  It provides the safest way to eliminate and destroy odors, fungal spores, bacteria and even germs in the air.

The Hydroxyl Generator emits UVA Rays through the Generator and eventually forms Hydroxyl Radicals that disperse through the equipment's fan to decompose organic and inorganic compounds in the air.

Hydroxyl Generators are usually set up during fire mitigation projects to eliminate smoke and soot odors, but can also be placed during mold remediation projects or even badly contaminated water losses.

The benefit of using a Hydroxyl Generator is it's ability to run while the space is occupied.  Yes! Completely safe to run while the space is occupied with people, pets and plants and while the equipment is on and in progress eliminating odors, spores and bacteria in the air.

What's the point of a Containment?

SERVPRO of South San Francisco City/ San Bruno gets asked many times why placing a Containment is important and if it's really necessary.  Well the answer is Yes! Containment's are very important and can play a huge role in Fire, Water and Mold Damage Restoration Losses.

A Containment is placed to control the environment, minimize the work space and/or to keep something that can potentially be harmful under control and to avoid cross contamination.  In most cases Containment's are placed to block the affected areas from the unaffected areas which stops the spread of any further contamination.

Containment's are placed by using thick plastic sheeting with the assistance of tension/support poles or wooden frames and strong tape. The Containment's are usually placed around doors, openings, stairwells or even to divide rooms.
