Cleaning of Personal Belongings

This Metal Crest Heirloom was treated in our Ultra Sonic Machine and was cleaned and sanitized after Sewage Water Damage.

Can Sewage Damaged Personal Belongings be Cleaned?

Depending on the Type of Material of the Personal Belongings affected by Sewage Water can determine if it can be Salvaged or not.  When Cleaning Belongings affected by Sewage you want to make sure it can be completely cleaned and decontaminated.

Usually any materials that are Porous cannot be Cleaned and Sanitized.  Some Porous Materials include Fabrics, Papers, Cardboard's and Untreated Woods.  The Porous Materials can soak in the Sewage Water and hold onto any Bacteria's that are found in the Sewage.

Fortunately there are Non- Porous Materials that can be Treated, Cleaned and Sanitized when affected by Sewage Water.  Non- Porous Materials like Glass, Metals, Plastics and Varnished Woods can be decontaminated.

Why do I need Water Restoration?

1/3/2018 (Permalink)

This is an example of Invasive Water Restoration. Engineered Wood Flooring, Drywall Ceiling and Walls was removed due to certain circumstances.

Why Water Restoration?

When your Property is affected by a Water Loss it is important to start the Restoration process right away to prevent further damage.  Restoration is the process of returning something, like your property, back to its normal condition.

A Water Loss can happen at any time.  The Water can travel and spread everywhere through the paths of least resistance.  Porous Materials throughout the property will soak up the Water.  If this is not treated and dried properly more severe damages can occur.

Water Restoration is very important and can be performed in many ways. There can be a lot of cleaning, invasive repairing and drying involved depending on the circumstances. The sooner you start the Water Restoration the easier it is to get Water Damaged Property back to normal.

It's best to contact a Restoration Company with Professional Technicians to restore your property back to normal conditions.

Drying Equipment during Water Restoration

1/3/2018 (Permalink)

The Drying equipment is in full effect at this location. Saving and Drying Hardwood Floors and Wood Framing.

The Importance of Drying Equipment!

During Water Restoration it is very Important to set up Drying Equipment right away.  Drying involves the Removal of Water.  The Drying Equipment Lowers the Humidity and Traps the Moisture in the Air.  Any standing water should be extracted prior to any Drying Equipment placement.

In order to Dry certain materials you must prepare to remove moisture from the air.  Setting up a Drying Chamber around the affected Area will contain the moisture in the air.  Drying Equipment is placed within the Drying Chamber to Heat Up and Extract that moisture from the air and materials. All the Equipment work hand in hand together.

Drying Equipment is placed to Dry Carpets, Drywall, Wood and Framing.  Specialty Drying Equipment can also be placed to tackle unique drying challenges.  Especially when you are attempting to Dry certain materials like Hardwood Floors, Tile, Inside Walls or Under Cabinets.

It is very Important to never turn off the Drying Equipment during the Drying Process.  If the Process is Stopped you will need to start the Process all over again.

Saving Hardwood Floors from Water Damage in your Residential Home

12/8/2016 (Permalink)

Time is of the Essence when looking to Save your Hardwood Floors from Water Damage. Act Fast and contact your Professionals to start a Drying Plan.

Can my Hardwood Floors be saved from Water Damage?

SERVPRO of South San Francisco City/ San Bruno is asked multiple times if Hardwood Floors can be saved from Water Damage.  Well, for the quick answer, yes! True Hardwood Floors can be saved, but time is of the essence and depending on the circumstances; if any discoloration, delaminating or buckling has already occurred, then the Hardwood Floors may need to be removed and it is important when making decisions about saving, removing or replacing Hardwood Floors, considering the Category of Water and the time of exposure.

What kind of Wood Floors do you have in your Residential Home?

Knowing the kind of Wood Floors that came in contact with the water will help determine if the Wood Floors can possibly be saved or not.   Here are some examples of the Wood Floors in Residential Homes and the possible outcome if affected by water:

Solid True Hardwood Floors: can be successfully saved or salvaged when treated in a timely manner; depending on circumstances.

Engineered Wood Flooring: can possibly be saved or salvaged if treated in a timely manner; depending on circumstances.  But in most cases this Wood Flooring can be considered non- salvageable and may need to be removed when affected by water.

Laminate Flooring: can be mistaken as wood and is unfortunately considered non- salvageable and cannot be saved; regardless the circumstances and should be removed when affected by water.

When Wood Floors gets saturated by water the moisture travels through that material, the water is absorb by the wood and will keep spreading.  Acting fast to remove excess water and starting a drying plan will stop the spread of moisture; this will help keeping damage to a minimum and can potentially save your Wood Floors.

Contact your professionals at SERVPRO of South San Francisco City/ San Bruno by calling 650-794-1000 for assistance with your Wood Floors.  We will be happy to help you in your time of need!

What Type of Water Loss do you have?

Find out where your Water Loss Originated and Properly Mitigate Damages Fast in your Residential or Commercial Property.

The Different Categories of Water Losses for Residential and Commercial Properties

Here at SERVPRO of South San Francisco City/ San Bruno we want you to know the different Types of Water Losses that can occur.  Knowing the Category of the Water Loss can better Prepare You for the Services that may be required to properly mitigate the Water Damage.   Acting Fast to Properly Mitigate the Water Damage in your Residential or Commercial Property can save a lot of time and money.

Category 1- Clean Water

Category 1 Water originates from Sanitary Water Sources. Clean Water Sources can include: Broken Water Supply Lines, Tub or Sink Over Flows (with no contaminates), Appliance Malfunctions involving water Supply Lines, Falling Rainwater, Broken Toilet Tanks and Broken Hot Water Heater Tanks.   Generally Clean Water Losses can be dried in a reasonable time with no complications, however there’s always that chance that it can get a little more invasive depending on the Materials that are affected.

Category 2- Grey Water

Category 2 Water can originate from Category 1 Water due to length of time.  Grey Water can contain potentially unsafe levels of microorganisms or other organic or inorganic matter.  Some Examples of Grey Water include: Discharge from Dishwashers or Washing Machines, Over Flows from Washing Machines, Over Flows from the Toilet Bowl (with Urine Only), Broken Aquariums and Punctured Water Beds.  In some cases Grey Water can be Cleaned and Dried, but since Grey Water contains some sort of contamination it may require more attention in an invasive way.

Category 3- Black Water

Category 3 Water can originate from Category 1 and 2 Water due to length of time.  Black Water is Grossly Contaminated and can contain pathogenic and other harmful agents. Some Examples of Category 3 Water Sources include: Sewage, Toilet Back-flows, and all forms of flooding from Seawater, Ground Surface Water and Rising Water from Rivers or Streams, Any Water Sources that are contaminated with Pesticides, Organic Matter and Toxic Organic Substances.  Unfortunately, Any Porous Materials that come in contact with Black Water Should be removed from the Location.   All Black Water Losses are beyond the Drying Point and require invasive mitigation and decontamination.  Once the Residence or Commercial Property is Cleaned and Decontaminated the Structure can be Dried Properly.
